How did the others happen to come on the island and where did they come from. Were they also involved in some sort of crash which left them on the island? Are they the scientists from the original Dharma group? Are they the kids of those Scientists? And how do they get food and supplies? Where do they get their books from the book club?

Also, one wonders how really stranded they are. The Others must have some sort of outside communication because they were able to pull together a thick file of information on Jack (and presumably Kate and Sawyer) after they were captured. The computers they have in the hatches obviously are old, so there is some other link to the outside world that we don't yet know about.

In "The Glass Ballerina", Ben/Henry Gale, the leader of the Others, claims to have lived on the island his entire life. He also has up-to-date information about the outside world, including the results of the 2004 presidential election and TV footage of the Boston Red Sox' World Series victory. Is that big cable that Sayid found on the beach perhaps their ComCast connection?

Reply: Now we know it is a cord connected to an underwater hatch, which Charlie has now entered, and was confronted by 2 people, both with guns, and 1 girl & 1 boy. I have come to a conclusion that these are Dharma Initiatives, for Juliet said The Others don't use it. Juliet is to be trusted now, because she wanted to get off the island, and now she can't leave. Part of my conclusion is that the girl with the gun is the girl Ben hung out with when he was little(forgot name), because when he killed the Dharma, they would have shown him confronting a girl's body which would obviously be her. However, here are 2 new people, a girl with the same hair, and if they're underwater, they wouldn't know about the extra people(survivors), and so they think that Charlie is an other, which is why they're threatning him.

Key note: most of the information they provided as proof to their connection with the outside world had to do with United States current events, though we cannot be certain yet what this might mean.

It is also interesting to note that Ben mentioned that he has lived on the island his whole life. It will be interesting to find out how this is possible since he looks to be at least 50 (Michael Emerson, the actor who plays Ben, is 51) and the DHARMA movies were make in the 80s. This would mean that Ben probably lived on the island before DHARMA arrived there. *I think he is supposed to be about 40.

What about Tom (The Bearded Man)? Did he ever live in the "real world"? The photo below might be a clue. Many speculate that this is Tom in the hospital bed, a patient in Jack's flashback. What do you think? (Thanks to Sledge for the excellent screen shots!) The actors for these two roles are listed as different actors (disproving the conspiracy theory almost totally), but there is a resemblance.

Is this Tom is Jack's Flashback?
