Jack tells Kate that he blacked out, which pretty much sums that all up. Kate obviously either ran into the jungle to get the cuffs off or she landed in the jungle.

The thing I want to know about is if the same people are on the island from season 1 - "the extras" (the survivors that aren't the main focus)... because the show makes it feel like there aren't many people living on the island
