Flashback: Sun and Jin were once in love, despite the fact that Sun is the daughter of a prominent and powerful man, and Jin was only a poor doorman. Jin wins Sun's hand in marriage by agreeing to work for her father doing his "dirty work."

I disagree. Unless I am mistaken, we haven't seen Jin kill anyone. We have seen Sun's father ask Jin to kill people, but Jin always seems to send a warning, that while violent, is never deadly. And he seems to want out of this job very badly. He objects every time he asked to "warn" someone, and seems to show remorse when he is done. And I think he only continues to work for Jin's father out of sense of obligation to her, which shows how deep his love goes. I don't see him as cold-hearted at all.
