Synopsis: The second season opens with a bang as Jack, Locke, and others peer down into the darkness of the hatch they blasted open in the final scenes of season one. Locke is the first to descend, followed by Kate. The hatch turns out to be a strangely familiar and otherworldly place, featuring oldies spinning on the record player, an ample food supply, and retro furnishings. When Jack follows Locke and Kate into the depths of the hatch, he stumbles upon a dangerous standoff in this strange place inhabited by a mysterious man whom Jack is shocked to recognize from a recent dream.

Flashback: This episode's flashback focuses on Jack trying to save the life of the victim of a car accident. Against the odds (and the advice of his surgeon father), Jack attempts to save the woman's legs with a risky surgery. While he thinks the surgery is unsuccessful and struggles to tell the woman she will never walk again, she discovers that she can feel her legs; they both break down in tears at the miracle that has occurred.

OMG Moment: The man from the beginning of the episode in a "home" with modern conveniences isn't in a flashback, he's on the island! Also, while searching for Walt's lost dog, Vincent, Shannon discovers a familiar face in the jungle. But is it real or an illusion?
