2.10 "The 23rd Psalm" - ABC.com - Official LOST wikiSynopsis: Mr. Eko recognizes one of Charlie's heroin-laden Virgin Mary statues from a drug-running plane he was supposed to be on years ago. Claire finally learns the truth about what's inside Charlie's statues, and after losing faith in him, asks him to leave her and her baby alone.

Flashback: We learn more about Mr. Eko and his former life in Africa. Turns out he's not the quiet, peaceful type the islanders believe. Mr. Eko encounters the black smoke and sees figures from his past.

OMG moment: The realization that the crashed plane is the same plane Eko saw off in Nigeria so many years ago is more than a coincidence.

Questions and clues: How did that plane get to the island?

The answer is revealed in season 4 when we see the island move. It's the only explanation, the island must have been close to Africa in it's previous location before moving to it's location in the South Pacific.

Whilst in it's previous location the plane must have crash landed on it before moving to it's next location bringing the plane and everything on board with it.

This also helps solve the mystery possibly to how the Black Rock came about the island (directly in the middle somewhere) the island could have arrived directly beneath I'm not sure, we haven't seen how the island arrives at a destination, only how it leaves but I believe the Black Rock was in the wrong place at the wrong time when the island arrived stranding the ship on top of it.

So the next question is how long has the island been moving about?

That answer may never be solved since the island not only moves through space but through time too.
