3.01 Q&A

Ask a question, post an answer.

Q: Does Ben really hate Stephen King? Why did he ask Locke for a Stephen King novel when he was posing as Henry Gale? Was he just being ironic, perhaps? Or perhaps it's just an Easter Egg being thrown to us by the writers?
A:

Q: The wounds on Bens' face seem to have healed very quickly (overnight actually), given it's been half a day past the previous time we saw him at the dock. How come?
A:

Q: Why were Kate's wrists so torn up? Why was she shaken? Something must have happened after breakfast!
A: No; the big guy that's escorting her clearly says 'those cuffs were kinda tight, huh? I'll bring you some antibiotics later.'

Q: How did the suburb of people get on the island and live in total isolation? ...and where did that cd player come from?
A:

Q: Did anyone catch the title of the Stephen King book the club was reading at the beginning? It is definitely Carrie. Recognised the cover of the paperback one of the guys is holding. (SmokeyMonster)
A: Title isn't given, and I seriously doubt it was Carrie. One of the other book club members mentions that it has religious themes, so my guess would be The Stand.
A: It's definitely Carrie - looked at screen pics on Lost Photo Gallery. The cover shows it's the first edition, published in 1974. Does that lead to even more questions?

Q: Why did Jack and Kate have injections when Sawyer didn't (or at least he wasn't shown removing a bandaid) (DID Sawyer have a needle stick? I thought he did...)
A: Yes, Sawyer had a needle mark as well.

Q: Why was Jack surprised that Sarah had his dad's phone number? Christian was her father-in-law, after all. Is there more to the Jack/Sarah/Christian situation than we know?
A: In the episode Two for the Road in Season 2, Ana Luciatakes Christian a blonde woman's house in Sydney. He is drunk and demanding to see his daughter. She yells at him to leave and Ana Lucia takes him away again... was this Sarah?

Q: How did The Others get all the documentation about Jack, including a copy of his father's autopsy?
Tom says to Kate that doesn't want to shower in front of him that she's not his "type". Does that mean that Tom is gay? Kate is a pretty girl afterall.
A:

Q: What was that green and white thing that comes off the plane before it breaks up? Probably just a bit of the plane, but it looked a bit odd.
A:

Q: Why is there no one under twenty in "Other-bia?"
A: Isn't Alex supposed to be 16? - We saw her at the end of Season 2

Q: Where was Bea (the turban-wearing black woman)? Where was Alex (the French Woman's daughter who was so kind to Claire)? Where are the children and the other folks from Flight 815 whom the Others took in the first 48 days?
A:

Q: Who was the real Henry Gale from Minnesota, and who buried him in a shallow grave marked by a cross beneath the remains of a hot-air balloon (that sort of burial seems so unlike the "Others", and yet Ben took Henry's identity, so one would think that Ben was involved with Henry's death somehow)?
A:I thought he broke his neck? - didn't Sayid figure that out when they had henry hostage in the hatch?

Q: The obvious question: where did the Others come from (can it really be so simple as they are leftovers from the Dharma Initiative?)? Pay attention to the time--if the Dharma initiative was in the 70's many of the people in the Others would have to have been born on the island.
A:

Q: Did anyone notice that at the book club meeting, there was one significantly older woman who was grinning maliciously when Juliet defended herself against Adam's attacking her for her book choice? Was she perhaps an original Dharma person? According to IMDB, the character's name is Amelia.
A:

Q: How did Ben become leader of the Others?
A:

Q: Who is Carl? What became of him?
A:

Q: From the time Jack was released from jail to the time of the plane crash, how long was that?
Was the man who let Jack out of his cell, also at the book club? (Possible Answer: maybe an island of BAD TWINS)
A:
