The numbers is one of Lost's biggest mysteries. This page talks about the numbers, and their appearances in Lost and in the real world.
In Lost:
Season 1:
"Numbers"-- Hurley's winning lottery numbers were the numbers.
- Danielle's notes had the numbers written on it 7 times.
- Leonard repeated the numbers over and over in the mental hospital; he heard them from Sam Toomey while they were in the Navy.
"Exodus: Part 2"-
- When Hurley's car broke down, the speedometer (kph) went down from 16 to 15 to 8 to 4, the odometer was at 42 km, and the temperature was 23C.
- Hurley went by a soccer team with the numbers on their back.
- The hatch of the Swan had the numbers on it.
Season 2:
"Man of Science, Man of Faith"-
- The vial Desmond inject himself with had the numbers on it.
"Adrift"-
- The numbers must be typed into the computer every 108 minutes.
"Maternity Leave"-"Lockdown"-
- The numbers appear on the blast door map.
Season 4:
"There's No Place Like Home: Part 1"-
- The mileage on Hurley's Camaro reads the numbers.
In Real Life:
The numbers do appear in real life in any mathematical equation, but there are a few close ones.
- In a lottery on 11/16/0511/16/05 in Ireland, the numbers were 4 8 15 16 23 24.
- In the first 200,000,000 digits of the infinite equation of pi, the number 4815162343 appears.
- The numbers are all retired baseball jerseys for the Yankees.
- The coordinates latitude 4.815,4.815, longitude 162.342 is in the trail of a plane flying from Sydney to L.A. (see google maps here).
