"Because You Left" was
written by Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse
directed by Stephen Williams.
On Island Events: At
8:15, an alarm clock goes off.
Dr. Pierre Chang and his wife wake up, along with their baby. Chang puts the record player on, but it starts skipping. He goes into a room to film for an orientation video for
the Arrow. Suddenly, a worker interrupts, reporting a problem at
the Orchid. They go to
the Orchid, which is currently under construction. The drills melted as they attempted to drill into a wall. Another worker gives him an image of a chamber located underneath them, revealing the frozen wheel. Chang announces that behind this wall is an infinite amount of energy, and if they can harness this, they can manipulate
time. He warns the workers not to drill anymore, as if the energy is released, it will have harmful consequences. As he leaves, he bumps into another worker,
Daniel Faraday.
The survivors begin to experience the effects of moving
the Island.
Locke, who was with
the Others before the flash, is isolated afterwards. Back on the beach, the survivors are perplexed, as their
camp has disappeared.
Juliet and
Sawyer noticed that
the freighter is no longer visible.
Daniel and the survivors on the
Zodiac raft manage to travel with
the Island, and return to the beach with the rest of the survivors.
Daniel says that the must find a man-made object on
the Island, so they head to
the Swan station, a
15 minute walk away.
While walking to
the Swan,
Daniel tells
Sawyer to hurry the pace.
Sawyer demands to know what is going on, but
Daniel says that attempting to explain it would be difficult, even to a quantum physicist.
Sawyer becomes angered, and slaps
Daniel, provoking
Charlotte, but
Sawyer threatens to do the same to her.
Daniel then describes
the Island as a record that is skipping, due to
Ben turning the wheel at
the Orchid.
The Island has become dislodged in
time, causing it to skip to different times. He asks if all survivors are accounted for, but
Sawyer realizes that
Locke is not with them.
Locke climbs a hill, and is almost clipped by a plane that crashes. On the ground, he sees a statue of the Virgin Mary, which had fallen out of the plane.
Locke knows that it is the Nigerian
drug smugglers' plane, which he and
Boone discovered.
Locke arrives to the plane, hanging from a cliff. He starts to climb up, trying to find any survivors, when someone starts to shoot at him. He is shot in the leg, and falls to the ground. The identity of the shooter is revealed,
Ethan Rom.
Ethan assumes that he was on the plane, and wants to know who is on their.
Locke explains that he did not come from the plane, and that
Ben appointed him as the leader of
the Others.
Ethan calls this comment ridiculous, and points his gun at him, but
time shifts again.
The survivors arrive at
the Hatch, which is imploded, giving them an estimate as to when they are.
Sawyer believes that they can stop the survivors who went on
the helicopter (since he believes they died when
the Kahana exploded).
Daniel disproves his
theory, as what has happened in the past cannot be changed. He explains that
time is like a string; you can move back and forward, but cannot create a new string. Meanwhile,
Locke is by the plane, which is now on the ground, fallen from the cliff. A person approaches, who is
Richard Alpert. Richard removes the bullet from his leg, and says that
the Island will heal it. He tells
Locke that the next
time they see each other, he will not recognize him, so he gives him a compass. He also tells
Locke that the only way to save
the Island is to get the
Oceanic 6 back to
the Island, and the only way to accomplish that is if he dies.
Another flash occurs, and the destroyed Hatch is no longer visible, prompting them to find
the door, knowing they have gone back in
time.
Juliet uncovers
the door.
Sawyer finds the rear entrance to
the Swan, and bangs on
the door.
Daniel says that it will not work, because he has yet to see
Desmond. If it has not happen, it cannot happen he explains. The survivors leave, heading back to the
camp, but
Daniel stays, and grabs his journal from his backpack. He bangs on
the door, and
Desmond appears, pointing a gun at him.
Daniel tells
Desmond that he is "uniquely special" and "the rules" do not apply to him. He tells
Desmond that in the future, he must go to Oxford University to meet his mother if he leaves
the Island.
Norton wants a blood sample from Kate and Aaron to see if she is the mother. |
Off Island Events: Ben and
Jack are at the
funeral parlor, where they discuss how to get the
Oceanic 6 together so they can return to
the Island.
Jack does not believe that he can bring them back, because they all distrust him.
Jack wonders why all these bad
events have occurred, and
Ben replies it is because you left. They go to a hotel where
Jack shaves his beard.
Ben says that the last
time he saw
Locke was at
the Orchid station on
the Island. He asks if
Locke told
Jack what happened to the survivors, but he was never told.
Kate and
Aaron are at home, watching cartoons. The doorbell rings, and
Kate answers
the door. It is an attorney, Dan Norton, working for an unknown client. Norton claims that he has a court order to take a test to determine the actual relationship of
Aaron to
Kate.
Kate refuses, and Norton says that if she does not comply, he will get the sheriff.
Kate tells him to get the sheriff, and closes
the door on him.
Kate then packs up a suitcase, grabbing a envelope full of cash and a gun. She takes
Aaron, saying that they are going on vacation, and they leave the house.
Sun is at Heathrow Airport, in London. She goes to the ticket desk, where she gives the ticket agent her passport. the ticket agent asks her to hold on for a minute. She is taken to a room, and the security guard locks
the door with her inside. She demands for
the door to be opened.
Charles Widmore comes into the room from another door, and
Sun questions as to why he brought her here. Widmore says that he was angered that she had the audacity to approach him in public, and showed no respect. He asks her what their common interest is, a topic she brought up when the last met. She says that their common interest is to kill
Benjamin Linus.
Ben and
Jack see the news on the television, showing a report that
Hurley had escaped from
Santa Rosa and that he had apparently murdered a man.
Ben realizes that recruiting the
Oceanic 6 will be harder than he had originally surmised.
By-standers take pictures of Hurley, believing he just killed a man. |
Hurley and
Sayid stop at a fast food restaurant before heading to the safe house.
Hurley asks who the man who
Sayid killed (who
Hurley is accused of killing) is. He says he does not know, but is an enemy because he was watching
Hurley. He asks how
Sayid became so paranoid.
Sayid reveals that he has been working for
Ben for the past couple of years, but warns that if
Hurley ever meets
Ben, do the opposite of what he says.
Sayid notices that there is someone inside the safe house.
The door opens, and a man attacks
Sayid, but
Sayid pushes him over the balcony, killing him. He goes inside, and is attacked by another man, who shoots him with a tranquilizer dart. After a long fight,
Sayid gains the upper hand, and trips him, causing him to fall on several knifes in the dishwasher.
Hurley, who is outside, holding the gun and has what appears to be blood on his shirt (even though it is ketchup) is seen by a group of people below. They take photos of him, believing he killed the guy on the ground below and run away. They manage to escape, and drive away.
On a boat,
Penny and
Desmond wake up.
Desmond remembers what
Daniel told him on
the Island, but Penny says it was just a bad dream.
Desmond realizes that it was not a dream, but a memory. He decides that he must go to Oxford University to find
Daniel's mother.
