Center of the Universe?
So I was thinking.. maybe the Island is the center of the universe? Maybe it is the origin of spacetime?
This would allow for a few things:
First and foremost, it wouldn't violate the producers' assertion that everything on the island can be explained scienctifically. My explaination is bordering on science-fiction, BUT the theory of "Spacetime" is widely, though not universally, accepted in the scientific community.
It would explain why time is different there, why it passes differently. This is pure speculation, but in physics "Spacetime" is what governs the universe.. think of it as a permeable jelly substance surrounding us, not unlike the 'force' in Star Wars. It would go to logic that in order for this 'spacetime' to even exist, it must have an origin. EVERYTHING governed by physics has an origin. At this origin, because (insert absurd reason here, I don't claim to have all the answers), perhaps time passes differently.
This might explain why there is so much electromagnetism as well as perhaps the nature of the smoke monster. The electromagnetism can be explained by this place being the starting place of the universe.. there would HAVE to be large level of naturally occuring energy to create a universe, maybe this place is the origin of the big bang? Maybe the smoke monster is the Guardian of time, and was created by accident(or maybe even on purpose) by Jacob at the start of time.
Also, in season 4, Daniel Faraday makes a comment about how light doesn't seem to scatter right. Again, this would make sense given that 'spacetime' either doesn't exist or is different at it's core.
Shifting the origin of spacetime would, I would venture a guess, change time.. not in the sense that it everything would be different, but it wouldn't be a stretch to guess that shifting time a bit would alter events. Maybe not completely change or eliminate them, but certainly tailor them a bit, so to speak.
Ben says that 'moving the island' is 'dangerous and unpredictable,' probably the exact two words I would use to describe changing the nature or origin of spacetime. Perhaps it is unpredictable because one cannot anticipate how the rest of the world and it's timeline will be affected? Maybe when you move the island you force time to shift and move along an altered timeline of events.. altered, but not altogether different.
Thoughts? Ideas? Loopholes? More Evidence?
