Christian Shephard (Actor: John Terry)

Biography: Christian Shephard is Jack and Claire's father, Margo's husband, and Aaron Littleton's grandfather. He was the Chief of Surgery at St. Sebastian's Hospital where Jack also worked, and attended his wedding with Sarah. Christian faces an uncertain status in regards to whether he is alive or dead.

In the episode: The Missing Pieces, Christian is seen telling the dog, Vincent, to go look for Jack. This scene actually happens moments before the events of the pilot episode.

His story

A surgeon whose son, Jack, followed in his footsteps. A flawed person, Christian was an alcoholic and his addiction led him to make a mistake during an operation -- a misstep Jack reported, leading to Christian losing his job. It was then that Christian severed the ties with his son. After this event, he sunk deeper into his alcoholism and made his way to Australia with Ana Lucia who came as his bodyguard, wanting to see his (unseen) illegitimate daughter. This daughter was revealed to be Claire in "Par Avion", and although she now knows that he exists, she didn't want to know his name. He eventually died in Australia, never reconciling with his son. He met Sawyer in a bar which is where he said "That's why the Sox won't win the Series". Jack said this quote and Sawyer realized that he had met Jack's father.

Christian seems to be connected to a lot of people on the island. He is the father of both Jack and Claire, which makes him Aaron's grandfather. Ana Lucia has worked for him and he's had a drink with Sawyer.

When Jack referenced Christian twice in "Through the Looking Glass," many viewers first impulse was that Jack was too zonked on pain pills to remember his dad was dead. Was this wrong? Does Christian Shephard leave the island?


Fun Fact
He was a Red Sox fan, a trait passed down to his son.
He slammed his car door into Sawyer in Australia.
