The Collapsing Deck Accident was an event Hurley believes he caused. The deck was built to hold 8 people, but 23 people were on it (15 more than what it can hold) before Hurley went on it. It collapsed, killing two people. Not long after this, Hurley developed severe symptoms of stress and psychosis. He was then admitted to Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute.

The actual event has not been seen, so it is not clear if Hurley is responsible for the collapse or not.
