I think that they are in a parrellel universe where time is 30 min. delayed. In the recent episode focusing on Desmend they find out how much time is delayed. Also, the torpido that they sent up didn't come up funtill .... well when it wasn't supposed to. I also think that there is some sort of protective shield around the island because:
A. The plane split in half flying over it.
B. The torpido took a while to "fight" the force feild.
I also think that Lock can see the future. For instance, when Jack and Juliette were about to leave then Lock blew up the boat almost like he knew that Jack was going to be very important.
