Danielle Rousseau
(About the actress: Mira Furlan) Who she is: She left the original recording found in “The Pilot, Part 2.” Later trapped and tortured Sayid for information, and stole Aaron to try to trade to the Others in exchange for her own kidnapped child.
Hails from: France
Who she was before the crash: Danielle Rousseau was a member of a six person scientific expedition.
They were three days out of Tahiti when they heard a transmition: 4 8 15 16 23 42. Soon, the instrements started to malfunction, and there was a storm. The ship crashed into rocks, and it was beyone repair. They made a shelter.
After serveral weeks, they reached the Dark Territory. According to her, they found a radio tower near The Black Rock (This was later proven wrong). During this time, Danielle claims that the Others came, and and the crew contracted the sickness from them. She say she never saw any of the Others, but she heard whispers. The sickness began to take the lives of the people, and she ended up killing her lover, Robert.
After the team had died, she returned to the radio tower. he changed the transmition that was being broadcasted there. In the distress signal, she said that "It" (or he) killed them all.
In Episode 4x8 Meet Kevin Johnson, Danielle was shot along with Carl by an unknown assasin. Carl is dead, but is not known if Danielle is dead or not. But according to Lostpedia, she is dead.
Who she is now:During season 3 she assisted Sayid, Kate and Locke in their attempt to free Jack from the Others. In doing so, she was granted an opportunity to see her daughter Alex, but they didn't meet until Season 3 Finale,"Through the Looking Glass" on the trip to the Radio Tower. Her tactic of avoiding the Others (as opposed to the rest of the Losties) has served her well as she has yet to be captured or injured by them.
Family issues: Had to shoot her own husband when he became “infected”; her daughter Alex was kidnapped by the Others right after she was born. From what we have seen, she's spent her island time searching for Alex. (Actually, it seems she hasn't been searching for her, at least not in hopes of a touching reunion. We see this when Kate asked Rousseau to lead her to the others camp because she has seen Alex. Rousseau didn't ask questions about Alex or even want to see her.)

- Was not part of kidnapping Claire and actually helped her escape (two Rousseau attempt: Alex helped her escape too at first, although they didn't see each other).
- She won't leave the island with the rest of the Losties, stating that she has no place in the real world. But that decision may change now that she is with Alex again.

- There is a philosopher named Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
- In French-speaking countries, Rousseau's character was changed to be German.
Theories:
- She is actually an "Other" and misled the plane survivors for the sole purpose of getting Ben captured and to get to know the hierarchy of the survivors.and why does she want to be alone.
- The story Danielle tells is one that was implanted in her by the others through drug therapy and mind control. I think they did this because Danielle was originally a member of their group but was unhappy about their plans for her daughter. They also implanted the idea that she must search and build traps but will never harm one of them. This way they can use her for their own purposes when the need arises as in Ben getting to the survivor's camp.
Questions:
- Did she ever have a relationship with Ben, who claims to be Alex's father?
- No, Ben admits that he stole Alex from Daniella when she was only a baby, whom he defined as an insane woman.
- How could she have been on the one island for 16 years and 1) not realized there are other islands 2) not figured out how to track and follow the "Others" 3) not been captured by the Others (she obviously knows a lot about them, like Mikhails station was and their village-why don't they want her?) and 4 (and most importantly) why hasn't she done any and everything in her power to find and get back Alex? She has all these hunter/survival skills (sure, she had no choice but learn to survive), she knows about Mikhail's station, the village, etc. She knows there is dynamite on Black Rock...so why no rescue attempt in 16 YEARS? Possibly because she assumed her child was dead and going after the others would have been a suicide mission. Though now that she has seen her child (when Locke went to blow the sub in "The Man from Tallahassee") and actually met her in "Through the Looking Glass" things may change.
- Now that she know the Losties are there and aren't "infected," why not set up camp with them? She's met nearly all of them and seems to have formed a connection with Sayid and even Claire, once it was revealed that she tried to help Claire escape from Ethan Rom. What gives?

I seriously do not believe that Danielle is part of the hostiles or Dharma. I believe her when she said that she was on a crew of six, that was brought to the island by a storm when they tried to answer a distress signal.
What is interesting is that the distress signal would have occurred just over sixteen years ago, about the time that the hostiles attacked the Dharma village. I wonder if this is the distress signal that they heard. I would like to know what kind of research vessel she was on and what they were doing in the area. I'd like a Danielle flashback to show us the events of their arrival to the island, the infection, the unfortunate shootings of her crew, and the frightening first week of Alex's life and how the hostiles came to kidnap her. There is a lot to tell behind the story that Danielle has told the 815 survivors. There is also much story in Danielle and Alex getting to know each other. Alex has just learned that her whole life was a lie. But, she will also learn the traumatic first weeks of her life and what happened to her father, Robert. S4 should prove to be very interesting. |

after ben and the others took out the dharma group a rescue mission was mounted to find out what happened to them. Rousseau was on this rescue team. the team found the island but were slowly manipulated and destroyed by the others. only Rousseau survived. the others also managed to steal her child. she assumed her child dead until claire told her she had seen her. then Rousseau herself saw her when locke was on the mission to destroy the sub.

I very strongly think that danielle is also one of the others!..she is the one who gave ben to them...do u all really think ben is stupid enough to fall for a damn doll trap!!!??....

juliet says all the pregnant women on the island died before gving birth...until claire. but what about rousseau? she gave birth to alex on the island, right? was juliet lying to the losties AGAIN. but why, kate already figured out the other's alex is rousseau's alex. so it's not like juliet has to save face by keeping her knowledge of rousseau and alex a secret. but the losties are not big on sharing what they know with each other, so maybe juliet is trying to save face. the past few episodes have made me feel more and more uneasy about rousseau. was she really part of a research team whose ship crashed on the island? if so where's the wreckage? if she was just a research scientist, how'd she get so good at being this bad a** jungle hunter, setting traps and staying out of the "others" clutches for 16 years. sure, practice makes perfect and after all that time anyone could get good at making booby traps, but when she first supposedly got on that island, pregnant , she should have been easy pickings for the others. but they only took alex and left rousseau alone. why? has she been part of a 16 year experiment, with the others just monitoring her. is alex part of the experiment, too. maybe its about the maternal bond and instincts? is she one of the others, part of an even deeper recon. mission than juliet? are all her stories just fake background to gain the trust of the losties. maybe it wasn't a coincidence that she captured (and tortured) the losties resident torturer, sayid. when he came back to tell his tale, he had this comrodery and sympathy for her. if sayid didn't suspect her, why would anyone else? then she captures ben. and then she tags along for the trip to mykail's post and the others village, but suddenly comes up missing at all these opportune moments. were there private meetings between ben and roussea just like we saw with he and juliet, where she recounts what she must do? |
