A few disjointed hypotheses that might add up to a real theory:
- The Island has the power to influence events in the world and to bring things that it "wants" (or that the people on it want), such as Locke's father, a spinal surgeon for Ben, pregnant women, etc. Somehow, the energy of the Island is such that it can influence causality. - Charlie is dead. But not everyone who dies on the Island dies permanently -- for example, Mikhail and Locke. If the Island needs people, or if people have some special sort of connection with the Island, it resurrects them, or at least allows them to heal at an accelerated speed (Locke's bullet wound, Ben's recovery from surgery). Someone commented earlier about the Others' not aging; perhaps they are in fact immortal. The Island's being a sort of Fountain of Youth would certainly be a secret worth protecting. It may also come with "karmic drawbacks." For example, when the Losties leave the island, and Jack says they weren't supposed to, perhaps they've all brought Hurley's bad luck back with them -- with a vengeance. Also, the monster may be a side effect of this "bad karma." The Others want "good people" because good people don't incur the wrath of the monster, while people with guilty consciences do. - Surely the name of the Dharma Initiative is important. Dharma is the path of proper living. The Hanso Foundation discovered an island that actually punishes people who have done wrong, and set it up as a station for the scientific study of virtuous living. That the Others have survived is "proof of their virtue." Ben's loss of connection to the Island puts him at risk. - The Dharma Initiative (good?) and Pa Widmore (evil?) are rivals. The discovery of the Island by evil people such as Widmore would unleash seriously bad and wrathful forces. |

Could this be an internet role playing game? The cast is international, many are connected (games are often played by teams), some return from the dead (in some games you build up points to become invincible), some may have played the game up to a certain point and then had to start over (Desmond knowing what is coming next), some are obsessive about the game - Locke, because he can be and do all the things he cannot in real life; some are addicted - Jack has an addictive and obsessive personality - started playing as stress relief from his work as a spinal surgeon - became addicted to the program.
Let's imagine they were "saved" - end of game - They can start another game but they must find the island and the virtual plane must crash in the same area (see Jack's home with maps on floor, calipers - messy house - he is obsessed with finding his way back to the virtual reality of lost. Could the man who died in NY be the Game master - the one who directs and organizes play. Or could it be another addicted player who committed suicide - someone Jack doesn't know personally but who had the same addiction to gaming. Google: Massive multiplayer role playing games to discover some amazing information that connects with this series. Millions are involved with role playing games on the internet. There can be extensions to the game - e.g. started with the losties, then the tailies, then the others - some portions of the game can restrict a group to a certain area (the looking glass hatch) Sometimes there are raids on other groups - end of this season The more I read about these games, the more I can fit the program into my theory. Players in some role playing games earn points by fishing (Jin); In some types of games - certain players can communicate with each other and other players hear this as whispers; some players come in, play for a short time and die quickly - the man with the nitro who blew up Can't wait for next yr. |

Obviously the cable leading out to the submerged jamming station carries neither the electricity that powers the station nor the signal that jams transmissions. The station has a uber-special underwater antenna and a nuclear fission power plant. That cable is really only so the underwater machinegun girls can link up to Mikael's computer and play chess. Anyway, the dynamite they were using in the tents could never cut such a cable, obviously, so there would have been no way to cut it.

ok...my idea is similar to the Truman theory...but not the same. What if the Dharma Initiave was initially there to help out the world in case of some massive nuclear event? So they recruited these people who were willing to live in this Biosphere type place and were doing everything necessary to sustain life there. This included psychological tests that would alter perception of events or things (wouldn't you freak out at times knowing you were under the ocean in a bubble?). At times, the island would be above water, but then some type of retraction device (yes, I know it would have to be massive) could close up and submerge the island underwater (henceforth, turn the key and it all would go away) therefore, the hatches all over the island...if this dome sprung a leak then all could head to one of the sealed hatches for safety until rescue could arrive. This could also explain why they have to have a submarine to get to the island and why no radio devices are transmitting with any outside response. In addition, about the flashbacks and all their connections...I'm trying to recall, if (other than Locke and Sawyer)...have any of the other island inhabitants realized that they have any connections?? Have any of the characters come out and said Oh my goodness, I know you from such and such? If not, then possibly, these are not flashbacks at all, but dreams that Locke is having on interactions of the other characters, as he seems to be a key figure in this all. However, I can't explain why Locke can walk now and some other things......let me know where I am going with all this!

The others can't age and that is why Ben had to be wait to join the group to be their leader. They were waiting for someone to hear the voice of Jacob and knew that Ben was special. They aren't afraid of dying because that is what many of them are waiting for...death. That is why a baby can't be born to them because they are all too old though outwardly they don't look like it. They need young breeders to sustain them. That is why they are stealing children etc.

Each character has/had an unresolved issue. They are all in a therapy "room", some are possibly in prison, hooked up to wires. As soon as their issue is resolved they "die". In actuality, they wake up in the therapy room. IE: Boone was finally able to let go of Shannon; Shannon realized she could be loved for her true self and she was not just a useless person; Eko gave up his life of crime and became a priest; We are still waiting for Jack to deal with his father; Kate has to deal with her guilt of making her mother unhappy and getting her old boyfriend killed; Jin must deal with his poor upbringing and his guilt for "working" for Sun's father; Clair must deal with her decision to give up her baby; Charlie must deal with his addiction and believe he can be something other than part of a band; Sawyer must deal with the death of his parents and the man he killed; The whispers in the jungle are the scientists in the therapy room making a quick decision to "kill" the person or "do they still need more therapy. Hurley has finally come to terms with the number not being bad luck. Is he next? I believe Hurley is paying for it all.

What if the island has hidden a race of advanced humans (sort of like Atlantis) for hundreds/thousands of years? Then along came Dharma and something happened - possibly some kind of showdown between the 2 factions. As a result of some (currently unknown) action by Dhama (or the magnetic field) the original inhabitants were unable to have children and were dying out. The inhabitants overpowered/outsmarted Dharma (which is why the facilities are all left in a state of disrepair) and gained access to their equipment and communication facilities. They needed to send some of their men to the outside world in order to father children to keep their race alive (I'm thinking possibly Christian Shepherd,Sun's and Penny's dads here). The children were closly monitored as they grew up and all were manuervered to get on flight 815 to return to the island (they are all unaware of their heritage of course). As they have been subjected to the influences of the outside world, they need to be screened to be sure they are suitable candidates for continuing the advanced race of people, which is why they are being continually tested. If we ever see Ben's feet, I'll bet he's only got 4 toes on each!

In lost whatever you really want but can't have comes. Hurley when hes on a diet with his old rehab friend is wishing for food but in a way not. And food comes down from the sky randomly. perhaps this is more to do with what you want to quit.

Every episode is a presentation of a philosophy. Each episode can be viewed as independent and complete unto itself. There is no "end" to the LOST story. The characters represent philosophers and their theories about thought, society, morality, etc. Their names are the clue, among other things. I'd like some help figuring out the basis for some of the characters. The easy ones are:
SAYID = Mohammed: preaching strict monotheism, preaching against the social evils of his day, and warning of a Day of Judgment when all humans shall be held responsible for their deeds. Christian Sheppard = Christ: man can never be good enough Desmond David Hume= Desmond Tutu: a good man David Hume: skeptical epistemology, we can trust only the knowledge that we acquire from our perceptions. Hume asserted that our idea of causation consists of little more than expectation for certain events to result after other events that precede them. John Locke = the consent of the governed through a social contract to protect the natural rights of life, liberty, and property. If such consent is not given citizens have a right of rebellion. Also asking what is the original, certainty and extent of human knowledge? Claiming the source of all knowledge are sense-experience and reflection. WHAT ABOUT HELP WITH THE MORE OBSCURE CHARACTERS AND WHO/WHAT THEY REPRESENT? For example: INMAN Is this character based on Bobby Ray Inman: (born April 4, 1931 in Rhonesboro, Texas) is a retired U.S. admiral who held several influential positions in the U.S. Intelligence community. He served as Director of Naval Intelligence from September 1974 to July 1976, then moved to the Defense Intelligence Agency where he served as Vice Director until 1977. He next became the Director of the National Security Agency, during which time he claimed that the United States had developed public key cryptography. Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

There is a problem with all the theories. Yet I like this one the best. The truth is some electro-magnetic bubble is causing time to catch up with itself on the Island. Everybody is going to die, except one person. This person will have found another hatch with a key. Just before the bubble collapses, they turn the key. Presto, all the original survivors find themselves back in the world, AFTER, the Island, on the Plane which never crashes. The 'Others' live happily after. All the actors have to find new jobs and I realize that I'll never find a show to replace Lost. So I live unhappily ever after.

One theory I have is that the “others” are people who ran the Darma project... until there was an accident. What if in another station they were creating a disease and it got released throught the island. That could explain why Desmond's partner had that radon suit and the reason why he told Desmond to take those shots of the medicine. Also that could be why the “others” don’t want the survivors to leave. That could be why they themselves cannot leave, so they or the survivors would not spread the disease to the rest of the world. This theory might even be what the third season is about…

Well i just wanted to say that I believe that the "Monster" is in contact with the others and tell them everything 'bout the sourvivors, their life, past, and everything else. Example: Jack saw his father on the island, he found his coffin but not his body, that's not reasonable, his body couldn't walk, and maybe it fell, or something. Let's remebmer that the monster has been present in several forms to some sourvivors, and I think that that help him to extract that information and then to give it to the others, when Eko saw the "Monster" face-to-face, in the monster there were seen photos of Eko's life. Dave, another example of the "Monster" presence, the Black Horse, Jack's dad, Yemi, and.... I think that's it.

There's a problem with most, if not all, of your theories. Do you not remember that when Jack, Kate and Sawyer were first taken by the Others that Juliette pulled ou a folder that had all of Jack's life story in it? His medical records, school records, even his personal records (about his marriage, wife, etc.)? These things were never discussed by Jack with the other Losties so the Others could not have collected them by eavesdropping. They had to be recieved from off the island. This leads me to believe that either the Others are linked with the goverment or some other agency with access to that kind of information (i,e, medical agency?). This whole thing is being orchastrated by people that we haven't even met yet (referring to the reference of Jacob). Who is Jacob? Are the Others the ones making the decisions on what goes on on the island? Or are they more or less "slaves" to Jacob? Is that why they're building something? Is it his plan? Why did they take Sam and not Roussou? Why didn't they just kill her if they didn't need her? Is she one of them posing as a loner? I don't think that the Others have so much control over what happens as they make you think they do. They are just pawns in something much bigger....
