Early on in the show - -whenever anyone had 'figured out' their life....they died. It is somewhat simple to suggest this , but I think this has a bit of a burden of truth to it. Think about those who have died....does it not prove true? Some would say that the ones that have not died - have "figured it out" as well...but apparently they have not , completely - as they continue to live on. But why were they "called" to the island, and why did they all almost connect - before coming there? Fate....

Doesn't anyone talk to each other about their pass life?
By now some of them should know there are connection with each other.

this makes the most sense, given that the castaways were "destined" to the island. I think I believe a combination of theories, but this one has the most substantial proof. Whereas, the purgatory and alien ideas, have no reality given the basis of the show. I say we sit back, and watch what happens:)

The Buddhist references in this show permeate everything. The interconnectedness of every crash survivor, the dependant origination of their presence on the plane. The number 108. The Dharma Initiative. The concept of "starting over in a new life" as "reincarnation", Locke's repeated instruction to "Let Go". Even the BSM monster being the representation of the obscuring effect of fear. And one thing that Buddhism is huge on...Karma from your past life having a direct effect on your present circumstances (i.e. Fate) This show is certainly a commentary on the human condition...I'm looking forward to where it is headed.

Fate or the machinations of a multinational company that has access to contests that travel around the world, korean mafia links, able to start/harness a monitoring station in antartica, enlist a psychic to get information and gain intelligence and get claire on the plane. Connect Hurley to the "numbers" being transmitted. Get Jack to be the spine surgeon that falls from the sky, and have the power to build a secret? science station on a remote and protected island to harness a long buried power?

I also think this theory has the most sense. Back in one of the first episodes (think it was something like day 2 or day 3), they even talk about a woman who drowns because "she wasn't even supposed to be on that plane!" Guess it wasn't her fate to end up there...
