Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 was a plane flying from Sydney to Los Angeles carrying 324 people. It took off on September 22, 2004, at 14:15 from Gate 23 of Sydney Airport, and was supposed to land in LAX the next day at 10:42. Six hours into the flight encountered radio problems, and the pilot decided to turn back, and head to Fiji. Two hours later, the plane hit turbulence, and then crashed.

The crash occurred due to Desmond's failure to push the button, causing a system failure. The plane broke up in the air, with the cockpit, middle-section, and tail-section crashing in different places. 71 passengers (1: cockpit, 48: middle-section, 22: tail-section) survived the crash, which equates to the chance of survival a 21.9%.

The search for Flight 815 was canceled after many failed attempts in finding it, which was found out in Find 815. The abandonment caused anger among the relatives of the missing. Sam Thomas miraculously found Flight 815 at the Sundra Trench on board the Christiane I. Both Naomi and Anthony Cooper stated that the plane was found off the coast of Bali, along with all the deceased bodies.



It is unknown how the plane in the trench got there and by whom, but Ben has evidence that the fake crash site was engineered by Charles Widmore. He claims that Widmore staged the whole thing, including all the bodies, which he dug up from a cemetery in Thailand. The Kahana is a freighter that belongs to him (verified by the Captain of the ship confirming Charles Widmore as his employer). He found the coordinates to where the island is, which is where the real plane is at. Any information from Ben Linus should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed by other sources. According to the Captain of The Kahana, Charles Widmore believes that it was Ben Linus who staged the crash and put the bodies there.
