Hails from: Brooklyn, New York
Background: Harold Perrineau grew up in Brooklyn.
He studied music and theatre at the Shenandoah Conservatory. He played a wheelchair-bound criminal in the critically acclaimed hit show' Oz' on which he co-starred with LOST co-star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. He notably played the role of Mercutio, Romeo's cross-dressing, gender confused best friend in Baz Lhurnmann's modern day adaption of 'Romeo And
Juliet'. However, his most well-known movie role to date is that of Link, the Zion hovercroft pilot in 'The Matrix' movies. He is presently involved in the British sequel to '28 Days Later'.
His wife Brittany is a model/actress who had a brief role in LOST as lotto girl/Sawye love interest. The couple have a daughter, Aurora Robinson Perrineau.
Trivia: - Perrineau is his mother's maiden name, and his father is Harold Williams Sr. - his parents never married, so he used both names growing up, eventually settling on Williams (an intersting parrellel to his characrer Michael on LOST).
- He had to learn to swin in order to shoot the scenes at the boat for the Season One finale. Because the scene details are kept secret from actors until the shooting time, nobody asked the actors if they knew how to swim beforehand. He revealed that he didn't know how to swim when the actors were preparing to shoot the scene.
Pre-Lost signature role: Wheelchair-bound prisoner/narrator Augustus Hill on the HBO drama
Oz; bear bait in
The Edge; Mercutio in Baz Lhurmann's
Romeo + Juliet.Fun fact: Cut off his trademark dreadlocks after finishing his role in
The Matrix films.
Quote: “After we read the pilot [script], we all kept saying, ‘This is really good, right? Am I crazy? This is good.’ When it took off, we were all really excited about it and sort of surprised, I guess.” (
