Who He Is: Jacob is the supposed leader of the Others, and gives orders to Ben. He was first seen when Ben took Locke to his cabin. Locke, who at first, only saw an empty chair, believes no one is there. As Locke leaves, he hears someone say "Help me", and turns around and asks Ben what he said, but he said nothing. Locke then turns on the flashlight, which angers Jacob. Objects start to shake, and Ben is thrown into a wall. Right after that, Jacob is briefly seen sitting in the chair, and an eye is seen.
Later, Hurley went to the cabin after he got lost in the jungle. Inside, he saw Christian Shepherd sitting in the chair. Then, an eye is seen, the same one seen before.Jacob has been referred by people many times. Ben claims that Jacob tells him what to do. There is also Jacob's list, with the names of some, but not all of the survivors. In the video seen in Room 23, there is a message that says "God loves you as He loved Jacob".
Questions:
- Was he born on the Island?
- Why can some people see and hear him, and other's can't?
- Why did Jacob say "Help me" to Locke?
- How did Jacob cure Rachel?
- Why does Jacob dislike technology?
- Why was Christian Shepherd in his cabin?
- Jacob is obviously very powerful. How could Ben keep him captive?
- How and why did Hurley find the cabin on the other side of the island?
Theories:
- It's possible that if the island is in fact alive, or conscious, Jacob could be a manifestation of the island's persona or soul.
- Only special people can hear Jacob, right? We know that Locke and Hurley can hear him, so the rest of the survivors may be able to hear him if they visited his cabin.

Maybe, Jacob is a manefestation of the Island. Ben showed a connection with the Island when he saw his dead mother and Locke can now walk and seems to have a special bond with the Island. Locke is stil in the process of regaining his faith in the Island, so there for he didn't see Jacob, only heard him.

There is no way that Jacob is Locke! In the DVD commentary, they say that the close-up of the eye in Jacob's cabin IS JACOB! The eye is dark brown with bad skin. Locke's eyes are a light aqua color. The eye they show is also the person's left eye which is Mikhail's good eye (also very dark brown & he has bad skin). He is also balding & has a beard like Jacob. There is a point in an episode (I think after his station blows up) where Mikhail is laying/sitting on the ground & he sounds exactly like Jacob when he says "help me". The voice doesn't even sound close to Locke's or Jack's dad. I think there is a connection between them. I'd put money on the fact that I think Mikhail will return in season 4. He always turns up living when you think he should be dead : )

I agree that they're brothers because in "The Brig" Anthony Cooper said "I didn't raise no dummies." Did you notice that dummies is plural? Just thought I'd point that out.

Has anyone noticed in the photo of Jacob (see abovelink) that it looks like a small monkey is perched on Jacob's left shoulder? Maybe I'm seeing things and I don't know what it would mean anyway...but there you have it!

How would Ben make Christian invisble, and how would he make that building shake? |
