The basic idea is that the island is where things end up when they go through the space/time rift. That would explain the different creatures who ended up there, like the black cloud, Jacob, the monster, the polar bears, etc. The island itself is sometime in the past and the survivors are living in a time that is actually before they took off.
Jack feels it was a mistake to leave the island because everything they do now in the past can potentially seal their fate. Meaning it reduces their chances of fixing things. His father is alive, and Jack knows what will happen, but can't do anything about it. |
