Biography: Mikhail Bakunin is a member of The Others and a former Soviet soldier who lived in The Flame, stationed there to manage communications with the outside world. He was later shot in the chest with a spear gun, only to survive and then detonate a grenade outside the window of The Looking Glass, drowning Charlie Pace. It is unclear what happened to Bakunin.

Mikhail is an Other, but he prefers to keep to himself. He operated The Flame station, which functioned as the Island's connection to the outside world. One of his responsibilities was to compile files on all the survivors of Flight 815.

He has a habit of shooting anyone who approaches The Flame unannounced.

Once Desmond turned the key, imploding the Hatch, all communication with the outside world was cut off. Mikhail was unsuccessful in fixing the connection, and Locke ended up blowing the Flame up.

Mikhail was first seen when Locke, Sayid, Desmond, Nikki, and Paulo visited the Pearl station. Sayid managed to get a monitor working, and a mysterious man appeared, wearing an eye-patch. He was wearing a Dharma uniform. He looked into the camera, and covered it with his hand, turning it off.

Kate, Locke, Sayid, and Danielle found the Flame station while en route to rescue Jack at the Barracks. Sayid approached the building, but was shot by Mikhail. Locke and Kate captured him, and went inside to interrogate him. He claimed to be the "last remaining person of the Dharma Initiative", and had survived the Purge. Kate and Sayid went into the basement, to see if anyone was hiding. They found Bea Klugh, and brought her out, only to discover that Mikhail held Locke prisoner. Bea and Mikhail started to speak in Russian, and Bea shouts in English, "Just do it!", and Mikhail killed her.

Locke pushed Mikhail into the sonic security fence, apparently killing him. However, he showed up several days later, perfectly fine, and treated Naomi's punctured lung. He confirmed to Charlie, Hurley, Desmond, and Jin that he had died and come back to life. However, once he met up with the rest of the Others, he explained that the security fence was not set at a lethal level.

Mikhail went to the Looking Glass, under Ben's commands. He told him to kill Bonnie and Greta, which he did. He was then shot by Desmond with a harpoon in the chest. Later on, Desmond noticed he had disappeared. Mikhail somehow survived and swam outside. He then held a grenade at the window and killed Charlie by drowning him.
