"All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one."

A plane carying some people crashes in a group of islands which are run by an international organisation dedicated to furthering scientfic research which may not be considered ethical. The actual Island crashed onto was mostly dissused , but the science crews come over from their normal places of work and take the members they need to help sustain their community (the non-volatile people and those with skills they need).

Turns out one of the experiments (and the mechanism that keeps the islands hidden from the rest of the world) caused the crash. Show details the efforts of survivors (and scientists) to return to civilisation and their personal journeys and reasons for doing so.

The end.

Interesting -- I like simple -- but it doesn't explain why everyone was so closely interconnected in their previous lives. There has to be a significance to these particular people crashing on this particular island. And why would they take Sawyer and Kate instead of, for instance, Michael (construction), Jin (sailing), Bernard (everyone needs a good dentist) or Locke? They are both highly volatile and have no useful skills, unless the Others are researching con techniques.
