The Outrigger is a canoe that Kate, Sawyer, and Karl used to escape the Hydra island. Alex told Kate and Sawyer that they can escape, as long as they help rescue her boyfriend, Karl. When they arrived at the beach where the boat was at, Pickett was there. Juliet shot him, and said that they can leave, but Alex must stay behind, or Ben would kill Karl.

Karl later used the Outrigger to warn the survivors about the Others' ambush on the camp to take away the pregnant women. Juliet had already warned them about this, but they were coming sooner than expected.

Desmond and Charlie used the Outrigger to travel to the Looking Glass. After an argument as to who should go swim down to the station, Charlie knocked out Desmond, and swam down. After Desmond woke up, he was attacked by Mikhail, who was shooting at him. Desmond also went to the Looking Glass, with nowhere else to go.

Jin and Bernard used the Outrigger to go fishing. During their time together, they talked about marriage and Karma. Jin caught a fish, and Bernard said they must be the "good guys".
