Flashback Episode: "Expose"

Who he is: Paulo is a survivor of the middle section of Flight 815, who has been signed as a regular character for Lost's third season. He's first seen in the third episode of this season, "Further Instructions", hearing Locke's speech about rescuing Jack, Kate and Sawyer. He wasn't completely aware of the Others.

Introduction: Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez mudered Howard L. Zukerman, and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis on Paulo. He subsquently died as a result of being buried alive due to the paralysis.

Hails from: Brazil.

Who he was before: Paulo was in Sydney working as Chef for Nikki's employer. He and Nikki were setting up Mr. Zukerman, planning to murder and rob him of $8 million worth of diamonds.

Who he is now: (DEAD) Paulo was the romantic interest of Nikki. Paulo began to argue with Nikki when she wanted to go along Locke's journey to the Pearl Station, and much to his dismay they ended up going anyway in "The Cost of Living."

He also gives Desmond his five iron so he can construct his lightning rod in "Every Man For Himself."

Paulo alongside Nikki is present at Mr. Eko's Funeral.

He tugs the back of Nikki's shorts, implying he doesn't want her to go along with Hurley to view the van in "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead."

Why he was in Australia: To work as the cook for Mr. Zukerman. He poisoned him so Nikki and himself could get the diamonds.

Big secrets: Paulo and Nikki knew many of the secrets of the Island befroe anyone else! But they were so intent on finding Nikki's travel bag/bag of diamonds that they never told anyone about their discoveries.

Theories: - Paulo could be an Other. He hasn't appeared on the first 69 days on the island, and will take a major role on this season, so he could have been other spy gathering information, or an Other present on the plane. This seems improbable seeing as he knew Nikki and had been setting up his employer.

-Or, he could be just another survivor like Arzt or Rose.

- Paulo might have something to do with the Portuguese speaking characters that were shown on last season's finale. The actor himself comes from a Portuguese-speaking country.
