During a certain lost episode a special man told Rose that they were at a special place on earth that he believed had special healing powers. The spot could not however heal Rose because the man said it was not the right spot for her. Fate has therefore brought Rose and the other Flight 815 passengers to the island through events that seem like mere coincidence. The island had been discovered prior to flight 815's crash by scientists from the Dharma Initiative. They built the stations but were afterwards unable to find the island again just as Ben told Michael he would be unable to find the island again. The people living in the Dharma Initiative stations grew stronger and adapted to life in the woods and never suffered any injury that the islands mysterious power did not heal. They eventually built houses and discovered a way to contact the outside world with which they brought back electrical appliances as seen in the first episode of the third season. Upon leaving the island however they realized that they were aging and returned to their previous age upon their return to the island. They realized the island had been keeping them young and decided to remain on the island so that they would stay young. The reason they are so interested in children is because children are still growing whereas the "others" have stopped growing and are not aging. They are therefore experimenting with children to find a way to bring this fountain of youth they have discovered off the island. Over the years the others have become very protective of their island because it has kept them alive and therefore feel threatened by the flight 815 survivors. There is dispute between the others among whether to accept the survivors or not. Eventually the survivors of flight 815 will realize what the island actually is and will also not want to leave. There will then be a war to see who will remain and control the island, or the two groups will coexist together on the island.

And if Alex IS his daughter (which I think is another lie) then she has certainly aged. In fact the only person who seemingly has NOT aged is Richard, and that could be simply a case of the problem plaguing the old Vampire Soap Opera from the 1960s where the actors were always appearing as their distant relatives by donning moustaches or wigs. I have wondered since last week how, if the Dharma people were under constant attack by the "Hostiles", how could they install all the Hatches which were extremely high tech and required large earth-moving equipment and overland transport in big trucks to get all the Sixties technology installed? It doesn't seem to work that way in Afghanistan and Iraq does it?

Personally I don't think the frat boys who are writing this thing have any idea what's going on here. They are now simply flailing for a firm bottom on which to stand their feet.

Then why have we seen one after another of the Losties get hurt, fall ill and die? And Ben's tumor? Whatever healing power the island may have, it only works on the ailments people arrive with (Rose's cancer, John's disability).
