Shipping is short for "relationshipping." It's the term used when fans of a movie, book or tv show believe that two characters should be together. Sometimes, ships are proven... misguided (ala Harry/Hermione of the Harry Potter franchise). Sometimes, ships are comfirmed (ala Kate and Saywer... for the time being). Ships are sometimes referred to as the names of the characters with a slash between them or by combining the names (a Lost favorite).
