Snowglobe Theory
The survivors are trapped on the island, with the only way of being by submarine. This effect is known as the Snowglobe Theory.When Desmond tried escaping by traveling on The Elizabeth, he said that he had been traveling for two and a half weeks, and should of arrived at Fiji, but only returned to the island. He described it as being a snowglobe.
The crashes all involve engine or structural failure: The crash of Flight 815, Desmond's yacht was damaged, and the helicopter Naomi was in had a engine failure. They all seem pulled to the island. Each marooning is violent and lethal.
It is possible that the only way to get off the island is to follow the compass bearing of 325, and that the submarine is not the only way off. Ben told Michael to follow that bearing to find rescue.
A referance to this theory is in The Wizard of Oz. There was no way of escaping Oz, just as if it was in a snowglobe. Also, Dorothy's uncle's name was Henry Gale, just like Ben's false name.

In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy`s full name was Dorothy Gale (dont ask me why i have these stupid facts in my head) uncle Henry - was Henry Gale, may just be a nod to perhaps the most famous mystery land of them all.

thisis a very interesting idea, especially after Locke made the comment about there not being a real Jacob and Ben being the man behind the curtain, i didnt know Henery Gale was from the wizard of OZ but im going to check it out now.
Also the sub has been the only way off the island that has been proven, Ben gave Micheal and Walt a compass heading but whoknows where it took them. Desmond said he sailed for 3 weeks due West hoping for Fiji but came back to the island. If a magnetic pull was to pull Desmondos compas to point north tword the island, then if you were sailing west, you would just circle it. |
