The Dharma Initiative is a scientific research company who have been funded by Alvar Hanso. They found that the island has special powers found nowhere else on the earth. They advertise and recruit by saying their science is remarkable and will change the world. They lived in the houses that we know that the others now live in. The others killed all the Dharma Initiative people. They now occupy all the stations and projects that the former Dharma Initiative created.

just as in the invisibility experiments in the us the people went mad.this island is being cloaked by magnetism causing maddness and unusal behavior.darhma tried to use bears so as not to harm humans .the japanese tried to develop a weapon to destroy thier enimies.hiding the weapon would be essential hence the invisibility of the island.dragons triangle is harnessing a magnetic weapon that must be discharged at certain intervals.memory problems for thepeople come from drugs and magnetic maddness brought on by darhma as they need permanent residents to push the button . after maddness ensues they r removed from the island and taken back to a institution for evaluation and further brainwashing .show solved.compliments of fruitcocktail.

I apologize if this has already been posted, and surely others have considered it- but I theorize the Dharma Initiave started out with good intentions, then they found something useful, and the Hanso Foundation, whose intentions are less than good, decided to take over and exploit Dharma's research for personal gain. The Dharma people were then killed off.

Anonymous Dharma, a conspiracy or belief? 2 Feb 13 2007, 3:11 PM EST by Anonymous

I really think that Dharma has much more to do with the island and the Others than what we are being led to believe. Dharma is right in front of our face everywhere we look on the island or islands as the case may be now. In any respect I think that it is so obviously in our face all the time that we are looking around it instead of right at the answer. Dharma, the right way of living, proper conduct, the way to the higher truths.

dharma is in other words " right way of living". With respect to spirituality, dharma might be considered the Way of the Higher Truths. Dharma is a central concept in religions and philosophies originating in India. These religions and philosophies are called Dharmic religions. The principal ones are Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma), Buddhism (Buddhadharma), Jainism (Jain Dharma) and Sikhism, all of which emphasize Dharma (the correct understanding of Nature) in their teachings.). Dharma also refers to the teachings and doctrines of the founders of these traditions, such as those of Gautama Buddha and Mahavira. In traditional Hindu society with its caste structure, Dharma constituted the religious and moral doctrine of the rights and duties of each individual. (see dharmasastra).
I THINK this is Buddish dharma.
and the word" namaste2 is often said in the ending of the orientation film . and namaste is buddish word.
is a South Asian greeting, which is used when both Hello and Goodbye would be used in English. The meaning can be quite different, however.

Sanskrit na reflects a simple negation. Maḥ points to ego, referring "I" and "my". Thus namaḥ means "bow, obeisance, reverential salutation, adoration to your inner truth", but not next to your ego. Te is the dative of the personal pronoun tvam, "you". A literal translation of namaḥ te is thus "reverential salutation to your inner."

but in lost in longer words:The DHARMA Initiative (Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications Initiative.
the dharma is related with buddha and with higher mental power to change the world and be always good but the others turned from peaceful to angry animals.
i think in the start everything was under control until something happened( somebody died, something shocking happened or the just lost the point of this thinking that they are left here for the rest of their lives and taht the cannot never do those things what they did before).
