What they said was it was not someone’s dream or peoples dreams. What is being said here is it is a world created by the collective of the people minds but they are not dreaming and are going to wake up from a dream. They are concious in an alternate reality if you will. The island is a place used to put these people together as a form of therapy. It sound kind of Matrix like in that regard. It would explain a lot if the whole world around them is made up of the individual people’s thoughts and emotions and it responds to them so as to create a world around them.

I like this theory but I think it may be much simpler then that. I always go back to the Adam and eve theories and how they have said that in the pilot there is something there that at the end of the show will let people know this was really thought out from the beginning. It has to play into it somehow. But I like this theory none the less:).
