Dharma Initiative has created a "time door". One end of the door exists in present time in Antarctica. The other end of the door is the Island. However, the Island exists in the "time bubble" in which it remains in the past. Everytime someone (Desmond) pressed the switch in the Hatch, the Island was reset further back in its own time, while the present continued onward.
By nearly not pressing it, it opened the time bubble slightly, and Oceanic went through the bubble and crashed into the Island. When the hatch exploded, the time bubble was released, and accelerated into the present.

yeah i like this idea, when daniel farady comes to the island, he said something like people that have witnessed radiation at a high level get affected by the magnetic altitude of the island which results in some sort of time travel. when desmond leaves the island in a helicopter he ends up seeing the past in the storm. maybe that was when he left this 'time bubble'.
woww, its hard to explain becuase of all the conspiracy theorys out there, how did yhe writers think of all this!

The time theory could be a possibility, and one that could take them quite far. Initially, when the show first started I thought maybe they were near the "Bermuda Triangle" or something like that, but then I thought there could be some kind of time warp that the plane flew through, but that wouldn't explain how the "Others" had all of the background dossiers on the "losties". So brings me to thinking it's the island that is located in a time warp or something. Time is one of those subjects that is hard to deal with, and maybe the writers can come up with some story lines to meet the challenge. I just hope they (the producers, director, & writers) use this hiatus wisely & creatively, so they don't take us on a wild goose chase like they did at the beginning of the 2006-07 season. It's my favorite show, but it got way off track. So here's to a great & continuously improving seasons for the next 3 years.

If what the woman said was true, and the plane crashed with no survivors, the only way the island makes sense is a parallel universe. Somehow waves of reality with our dimension and the reality of this other dimension have merged causing the black smoke disturbance that the Darma people could not figure out and the other events such as the polar bear. The life experiences of our dimension have merged into the collective conscience of the parallel dimension so each plane crash survivor is remembering truths that happened to their parallel individual which never entered the reality of their dimension before. Perhaps the scientists from the other dimension were aware of something like a ripple in their universe, so they started investigating, and things have just become more complicated as this ripple has become larger to the point now where the situation is out of control.

I love this theory because they always seem to hint towards it. Originally I thought that they landed in the Bermuda triange and went through a time warp but since they are no where near there i dismissed it. Then we see the episode where Sayid fixes the radio and he and Hurley hear this 1920's music. Hurley comments that it seems to be "from another time". Could it be????

maybe season 3 will last 16 days, then 15, then 8, then 4.. and the season that lasts 4 will be the last season.. and on the 108th day, something magical will happen.. like a flying a otter telling them they were all dreaming and that on the count of three they will all wake up.. and when they wake up they are on the plan to LA.. then all of a sudden theres turbulance and everyone looks around, scared, and then the turbulance picks up and then BOOM, its over.. and the lost writing comes up :]

i think that all of the people on the island are being tested by the Hanso foundation. That would explain why the others are there, and why the people that have major issues end up on that island. its kinda weird. Or maybe the others crashed on a island just like the passangers off of flight 815 and have been living there for all of there lives...you never really know.

You know, time could be passing quite normally on the outside world and at an accelerated or even a slower rate on the island itself. Maybe that is why people appear to be healed more quickly. Perhaps the others can't leave the island because if they do, they'll die of old age or illnesses that were, not really cured, but slowed down.

Everything about current events suggests that our friends are not living in the past because of the baseball game giving the year of the game. (Of course no one there is capable of a voice over of any kind, are they?) Anyway, So they aren't living in the past, has anyone addressed the future? I don't happen to believe it is either frankly. I think that Desmond's woman is looking for him in the present. Otherwise she would look younger or older accordingly.

It is pretty clear now that the show takes place in present time. The only possibility left is that the Others can time travel, taped the Boston Red Sox world series, broght back the tape, a TV and a VC to show Jack and confuse him and us that they are not time travelers. Hmm that may be plausible. A friend: www.LostExposed.com.

Current events might not be current if the passangers are in the future. Ben seemed confused when Jack was laughing about the Sox winning the series. If they were in the future, Ben might have thought he got it wrong showing an event that happened years before. Why was Charlie so giddy after the "explosion" last season when he was talking to Claire? Could he have seen a glimpse of the future and he knows he and Claire get together?

When Jack was watching Sarah from his car the same song was playing that was on the transiver when Hurly wanted it to play music. When you are in space you wouldn't be watching LOST you would be watching LEAVE IT TO BEAVER or something. I think they are in the same kind of time warp they would be in if they were in space
