What We Know About the OthersThis is a featured page

1. They are strong.
Ethan Rom was able to lift Charlie off the ground with one hand, and beat Jack unconscious without breaking a sweat; they are able to cross the island on foot in an hour, a feat that would take a good deal of speed and stamina.

2. They are smart.

The Others seem to be engaged in a number of shady scientific enterprises, including experiments involving children, including Walt and Alex Rousseau. They also display excellent tactical reasoning, tricking the castaways on numerous occasions and even going to the point of using disguises and a fake campground.

3. They live in a well built community in the middle of the Island.
That community was actually the DHARMA Initiative's. The others are the "Hostiles" referenced in DHARMA Initiative films. They killed all DHARMA Initiative people (except for Ben) in the "Purge" by releasing a lethal gas at the DHARMA community.

4. They are trained.
They show tracking and wilderness skills useful in a jungle environment, and many of them display proficiencies with firearms and hand-to-hand combat, though Sawyer believes most haven't seen any real action yet.

5. They may have a way to get back to America, or at least off the island, but they stay.

6. They have current knowledge of the outside world, including television footage of the Red Soxs winning the World Series.

7.They can't have children.
Juliet has lost 9 women, and Ben had to steal his adopted daughter Alex.
