its impossible that they're dead because of so many reasons one them is that if they are dead...what about the rest of the people on the plane that are already dead. there's another reason now that we know jack and kate made it off the island. i dont agree at all. and its not even worth it discussing this theory.

lets assume the creators are lying to us, and it is purgatory, then since they are writing/creating the show then they would have to put things to "discredit" the purgatory theory in order to support thier denials. conversely if they are telling the truth they would NOT put in contradictory content that would make them seem like liars unless they ARE liars and are trying to fool us in which case they would not put in the contradictions in order to prove they are telling the truth and that would lead to them having a story line that supports the theory of purgatory. i could keep going in circles here but i think everyone should pretty much get the point by now.

the purgatory theory is just a theory and the "truth" is what we find out during the rest of the seasons and IF by some miracle we figure it out...i think they would be slick and leave themselves a couple loopholes to slip through and say "nope you didnt get it we fooled you after all"!!!

In "Through the Looking Glass, the flash forwards of Jack shatters this theory. If he gets off the island (and Kate), then they couldn't be in purgatory, since they come off the island and back to the rest of the world.

Perhaps, the island still is purgatory. Young Ben meets Richard and then the presnt Richard has not seemed to age. Perhaps, Richard is Satan. He is also the only person we have seen leave the island. The parachute girl was actually on a rescue mission for Desmond, but died in the attempt. She, like all the others, still believe that they are alive and she is just remembering her life. Richard is Satan.

I really think it is purgatory but the producers flat out deny that it is. If it really was true... would they publically admit it and ruin the end for everyone? What would be the point? Ok... here are some of my arguments to support the purgatory theory. #1 - Their plane crashed and they all survived... how Some of them have been healed from their handicaps and illness... again, how? #2 - All the flash backs. Dont they say that your life flashes in front of your eyes when u die? #3 - The smoke picking and choosing who and when it "kills." First time Eko incountered it... he looked it straight in the eyes and it let him be. Then, Eko began to work through his issues that he struggled with and saw the light to a better state of "being" for himself and shortly after the smoke "kills' him. Maybe it's not a "moster" at all but a vehicle to take the "lost" souls to where they need to go when they find themselves. #4 - They all have seen people that died roaming the island. Jacks father, Ekos brother, ect... Anyway, those are my main arguments. Like I said... the producers wouldnt tell you if you did guess the mystery. Why would anyone watch anymore if they knew the end?

I too initially bought into the purgatory idea. No survivors, just souls caught in balance. They had all done good and bad in their lives and I believed that the Island would be their testing ground to determine their ultimate fate. The fact that each member of the cast that diesd had recently done something extraordinarily good (Boone's attempt to get to the radio despite the danger to himself), or extraordinarily bad (Ethan leaving charlie to die at the end of a noose) right before their death suggested that they had swung the balance one way or another. However, when the hatch blew and the electromagnetic whatever went haywire, it was observed off island effectively putting an end to this idea. If they were in purgatory, they would be beyond the purview of the living.

I dont think this Purgatory at all!!!!!!!! People died on the island! YOU can't die if your already dead!! for instance boone, shannon, libby,and anna lucia!! And what happened to Walt and Michael?!?!?! they kinda just disappeared!! If no one died I would have believed it, but people did die!!!!!!
