Flashback Episode: "S.O.S."

Who she is: Religious mother figure; recently married to Bernard. Spent all of season 1 believing her husband survived the plane crash somewhere else on the island.

Why she was in Australia: Honeymoon with Bernard. Bernard took her there to take her to a faith healer.

Big secret: Her cancer was miraculously cured, just like Locke’s paralysis.

Flashbacks:

In "S.O.S", we see Rose stuck in the snow. A man then comes over to her and offers his assistance. He introduces himself as Bernard, and Rose invites him to go to coffee. Later, Bernard takes Rose to Niagara Falls and proposes to her, with violin players in tow. Rose tells Bernard that she was recently in remission, but the cancer has come back. Nonetheless, he still wants to marry her. They end up getting married and have their honeymoon in Australia. Bernard drives Rose to a barren, rural area in hopes of getting her to see a faith healer. Rose is at first reproachful, but agrees to see him in the end.

Once inside, the faith healer tells Rose that there are certain spots on the earth with a magnetic force that has healing powers. However, he ends up telling Rose that he cannot help her. Rose is more weary than disappointed, and decided to tell Bernard that she was healed. She only told him this to stop him from trying to fix her, that way they could enjoy their remaining time together. At the very end of the episode, Rose is at the airport. She drops her medication and it rolls over to Locke-in a wheel chair. Locke gives her back her medication and smiles.

Island Life:
Rose helped Hurley manage the food in the hatch in the episode "Everybody Hates Hugo". She is very motherly and comforts people no matter what their situation. Practically non-existent in the storyline now except in the last few episodes of season 3, since Bernard volunteers to stay behind to ambush the others.
