the ? appeared in the episode ? where we seeMr. Eko and his brother throughout the episode. We first see the ? in mr. Ekos dream, he is in the swan hatch where he sees his brother Yemi who is dead. As we know Yemi tells Eko that he has to help John Locke and he has to take him to the ?, then the sound alarm goes off and Yemi pushes the buttons on the keyboard, all the buttons turn into ?s and you can't tell what he typed but most likely he pressed 4,8,15,16,23,42 and the hieroglyphics on the sign all turn to ?. Ana who was shot by Michael also told him in a dream that Locke has to take him to the ?. So Eko makes Locke take him to the ? Locke doesn't want to so Eko hits him in the face, he passes out and Eko makes a fire and camp, then Locke has a dream and eko has to climb to where Boone died, the plane is there on the ground, Eko goes up to the top of the mountain and looks down and he sees a ? drawn in the ground and it's really big. It looks like the plane is the dot of the ?, Eko comes down and looks under the plane and there is the pearl hatch.


Questions:
- did Dharma build the ? so they would know were the pearl is?
- was the pearl built on the others territory? and was that why they made the mark?
