Where is Widmore? 1974-1977
Mar 26 2009, 10:51 PM EDT
This had crossed my mind over the last couple episodes. We know Widmore was on the island in the 50's we learn this in the episode "Jug Head". And didn't the military guys of that time experience a Purge similar to the Purge of the Dharma Initiative? However, older Widmore off island when he meets John Locke leads us to believe that at one point he was leader of the Others. And it was Ben who caused him to be exiled from the island. Did Widmore go through a similar initiation process as Little Ben? Being part of an adverse group from the Others, and recruited by Alpert as their leader? (If what Widmore told Locke is true). If Widmore was being truthful with John Locke at their meeting, then where is Widmore in 1974-1977, shouldn't we atleast hear mention of him?

I think Widmore has been on Alpert's side this whole time and may already be the leader of the others in 77. He might have lied of course and maybe felt betrayed that Alpert chose little Ben instead. That would cool to see little Ben get dirty looks from Widmore who was probably in his 40's by then. Do you find this valuable? |

I can't put my finger on Alpert for the life of me, but at the same time he is the one background character that for some reason I completely trust. I never find myself questioning his loyalties or motives as I do with Ben or Widmore. However we've seen Alpert's loyalties waiver before... Alpert appointed Ben the Others leader pretty much, however we see him sort of go against Ben later on, trying to bring in Locke.... Remember he gave Locke Sawyer's file, to show Locke that his own father's conartist work is what led to Sawyer's parents murder/suicide. This is what led Locke to go find Sawyer to bring to his father who was held captive in the Blackrock ship, and lock Sawyer and Locke's father in a room together so Sawyer would kill his father. This act put Locke one step closer into being the leader of the Others. I can't figure out Alpert! LOL, I'm sure that's what the writers want from us viewers though... I love it! Still for some reason, I completely trust Alpert. I hope we get to see interaction between younger Ben and younger Widmore. I'd like to see what led to their feud. Do you find this valuable? |

i think hurley is the best choice because he is afraid of power and i think that will work in his favor cause the only thing he is more afraid of is messing up

Namaste what? When Hurley said that, I knew we found our future leader. Chief Hurley could fix it all with his humor, he will joke his way out of the problems. I say Sawyer too. They are both the funniest on the show and Sawyer need Hurley to lighten things up for him.

"And if anybody messes with Hurley he'll throw a piping hot hot pocket at them."Hahaha, we should all petition the writers and let them know that we want to see this in one scene before the series ends! I like the idea of Hurley as the next leader... You make a great point lizzie. Do you find this valuable? |

I was finally happy to hear mention of Widmore! I knew Alpert and Widmore weren't on eachother's sides lol. I kind of figured this on remembering Alpert going against Ben in a previous season. I'm hoping we see some of what leads to Ben and Widmore's feud in next week's eipisode. Do you find this valuable? |

"ellie was mentioned in the same sentence as charles. I think it was something like "I don't care what Charles and Ellie have to say." By the way I think First Marti was the one that said Charles and Ellie hook up and make baby Daniel. I think this is looking more and more to be the case. Do you find this valuable? |

So Ellie must have some clout in the decision making process of the Others... that makes me question the theory of her and Charles having an affair again, leading Widmore to indeed be Daniel's father? I agree with you both, always thought that theory. If what you are saying is you believe Ellie is Eloise and Ellie and Charles are Daniel's parents. But, do you think Eloise and Charles are enemies now? I do. If they are not enemies, they don't seem to keep in touch with eachother from what I see.

Yea I'm thinking they're on opposing sides. I don't know if they fully rivals such as Ben and Widmore are. Just more estranged I think, maybe opposing views. This makes me wonder how Daniel was raised. Was he raised without being informed that Widmore is his father (if this is the case of course)? Where does the Faraday surname come from? Makes me wonder if Eloise kept Daniel a secret from Widmore for some time if he is indeed Daniel's father.

I am no expert , so don't go by me. But from what Widmore says is that Ben got him kicked off the island and that he used to be the leader until Ben took over and had Widmore removed. This is what Widmore told Locke After Locke turned the wheel and ended up in the deseret and Widmore came to see him. Widmore says Ben is the bad guy and Ben says Widmore is the bad guy. We see Ben does some very bad things, but now we see maybe why, he didn't have the best childhood and now we see he becomes a Hostile as a child, which gives him more knowledge than your average 12yr old. Too much power and knowledge can be used in a good way or a bad way. As for Widmore, he does not seem very nice as well, I don't like the way he treated Desmond, but he might be a good man, just very determined and frustrated with the island which turned him a bit bitter. Widmore also sent the freighter with the mercenaries to kill everyone and capture ben. So my guess is, Widmore is bad. And I agree Daniel is very nice, I like him too.

But do we really know what Widmore is like? We've seen him be harsh to Desmond. Protective father over Penny... who can blame him with everything he knows... We know he sent military out to the island to kill Ben. But has he done anything worse than we've seen Ben do. Widmore tells us that Ben leads to him being exiled from the island. Hopefully in the next episode we'll find out some more about the Ben/Widore rivalry. I think that will give us some answers.
