Another question regarding time travel...
May 4 2009, 11:16 PM EDT
Why does Daniel say you CANNOT change the past... whatever happend, happend. But then in the same breath says that they are the variables, this is their present and that any of them could die at any time? Does this mean the chain of events that took place will still take place but they can interfere with those events and change the future?

Hopefully that is going to be explained to us. Daniel usually had answers for us viewers trying to understand the show, however as viewers we know his research was not perfect (Teresa is an example), and we know his research is theoretical. I think while he was gone over the three years that they have been in the 70's, he has come to realize holes or alterations in his prior research, hense coming back with the variables concept and telling Jack he is not supposed to be on the island. I think Jack is meant to carry on showing us Daniel's research at this point. Here's my question to add on to this. Now that we have trasitioned from constants to variables... who exactly are the variables? I am assuming Jack is, as Daniel said to Jack a couple times that he is not supposed to be there. So is all of the Flight 315 crew variables in that case? Leaving Sawyer and co still to be constants, subject to whatever happened, happened? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Visa Ve Daniel contacting Desmond and thus contacting his mom. Everything is relative to each persons track of existence. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

i think daniel is on to the idea that things can change and that he just might be able to create a new, alternate timeline (one where charlotte lives). i don't think it's possible to stop the crash of flight 815, but at the very least he might be able to change the fate of some people. then again who knows where the show will go?

I hate being so confused about this. Do you find this valuable? |

Yes, they stop the crash by preventing the accident from happening. The plane wouldn't be pulled out of the sky toward the island when Desmond was late entering the numbers (There aren't any numbers to enter, if the accident does not occur). However, Daniel is confused. He is the one who puts things in motion by claiming the accident will not occur when the bomb is exploded. I believe the accident is the bomb exploding. But, this doesn't explain why the Darma village is still standing. Do you find this valuable? |
