Well, if the HANSO FOUNDATION claims it's so, I guess it must be so. No chance that an organization as mysterious and flat-out weird as the HANSO FOUNDATION would ever tell a little fib, is there? Let's try this one: You drop a group of scientists, lay people or whomever on a tropical island with the overt idea of the island being a control (no outside interference) for experiments is many fields to actually study one -- the building of a society from individuals of vastly different backgrounds. Each is given a study. Genetics. ESPer ability. Weaponry. Take any, take all. As the individual experimentation takes place, the overall society begins to form. Leaders. Those content to be off to themselves. Murderous a'holes. Psychopaths. The island could be shielded; small place, big ocean, very advanced electronics. When a new element enters the picture (say, survivors of a plane crash), the community inhabiting the island does pretty much what any society does when faced with something new -- start with suspicion then kill or capture it and try to make it fit into the set paradigm. As flight attendant/Other Cindy (what's her story, by the way?) said, the Others "watch." As for the "list," it's pretty simple to get a flight manifest, do a little digging with the help of global resources and decide if this newcomer can become a compliant member of your society. Jack's too strong a personality to fit on any list. And so the society grows and changes, its myths and mores slowly developed by whoever or whatever drops in their midst, so to speak. The point being, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in Hanso. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
