The Smoke Monster
May 20 2010, 4:49 PM EDT
Jacob threw his brother into the creek and the brother floated into the Light Tunnel cave. Seconds later the Black Smoke Monster flew out of that cave and disappeared into the woods. Later Jacob found his brother washed up lying dead on the rocks. My question is: the Black Smoke Monster that flew out of that cave and disappeared into the woods, was that the brother-turned-Smoke Monster, or was it the original actual Smoke Monster that was living down in that Light Cave all the time?

I don't think that Desmond had completely extingished it, but maybe if Jack had not put the cork back in sooner it would have been completely gone. Also I believe that one reason "brother" became living smoke was because he was unconcious or dead when he entered the light. I think that the man he once was died and was reincarnated as Locke, but the darkness inside him lived on as the smoke. The smoke seems to take on the personality of those it transforms into, so maybe the reason that the black smoke wanted to leave the island and hated following the rules was because it had been Jaconb's brother so long that it believed it was him. There are lots of different ways you can look at it really.
