Does anyone remember when Jack and everyone got to the first cave, there were ancient bodies there? Anyway, did anyone see that he removed a pouch containing a white and black stone? What is it used for? 6  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

That question was never answered. I think it might have something to do with how Locke in the Pilot asked Walt if he wanted to know a secret, he held up two backgammon pieces: white and black. They looked a lot like the stones. I think it's just symbolism for good and evil and was kind of a warning sign to the survivors... Do you find this valuable?

Don't forget that in Claire's dream, Locke had one black eye and one white eye. Do you find this valuable?

My favorite book is called, The Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo
If you want to find out more about the stones in the pouch you should read it.
They are called Urim and Thurimum

The people in the caves were the DeGroots, they were the brainchild (more or less) behind the whole island experiments. i'm pretty sure they're shown in the training videos. Locke also says that baccarratt is the oldest game on earth and i thought the stones were those game pieces although i havent read the alchemist. i agree with janie about those stones though and they are def an illusion to the contrast between good and evil. for some reason i feel like Locke's secret he told Walt had something to do with the powers of the island and how Locke was paralyzed especially when i feel like Locke can sense how special Walt is which probably explains their bond so early in season 1. "They are called Urim and Thurimum"
They are called Urim and Thummim, not Thurimum :) and Paulo's account of them are by far one in a very long list including references in the Bible and amongst the LDS religion.

I would hazard a guess that the ones in Lost do not correspond :)

Thats right - i remember Locke holding up the backgammon pieces and he said something to Walt about a particular game being about 2 sides 'one white and one dark ' and 'which side are you Walt?". That seemed to refer to some kind of struggle between good/evil etc Do you find this valuable?
