Land "Out Of" Space and Time?
May 24 2007, 2:25 AM EDT The basic idea is that the island is where things end up when they go through the space/time rift. That would explain the different creatures who ended up there, like the black cloud, Jacob, the monster, the polar bears, etc. The island itself is sometime in the past and the survivors are living in a time that is actually before they took off. Jack feels it was a mistake to leave the island because everything they do now in the past can potentially seal their fate. Meaning it reduces their chances of fixing things. His father is alive, and Jack knows what will happen, but can't do anything about it. 10 out of 13 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Land "Out Of" Space and Time?
May 25 2007, 8:52 AM EDT I think that the island is sort of outside time. Time passes on the island, i.e. the manchester chick telling Charlie that all the passengers on the Oceanic flight 815 were dead, and that they had made an album of Drive Shafts "best hits". Maybe a better way to say it, is that I think the island is outside of the space time contum. Check out my theory in progress, in Parallel Universe. I do agree that Jack thinks it is was a mistake to leave the island. I like the rift thing, maybe the monster is from a parallel universe where they have evolved very differently! Do you find this valuable? |

The Manchester chick was in a helicopter that also went through a rift, but she came from the not-too-distant future (her phone was WAY sophisticated). But she was from a possible future where the plane actually did crash and everyone actually did die and the band made the record, etc. But since they are in the past, there are many possible futures because the decisions they make now affect everything that happens - including the crash itself. That's why Jack regrets leaving the island. I think that when they left, they realized what had happened and then started screwing up their future. Jack flies all over the Pacific hoping that the possible future they lived through happens again so he can fix things. I think he was so distraught over what he read in the paper because it was Ben who died and that meant that he was stuck in THIS version of events. When the funeral director asks if he was a friend or a family member, Jack says "neither". Still, he shows respect for the casket because he realizes that Ben was right all along. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
